not receiving facebook notifications?

If I comment on a person's status, I receive notification that someone has commented after me. But when the original person who wrote the status makes a comment after everyone else, I don't always receive notification. What's going on?

If you want to receive notifications via email, click Account > Account Settings > Notifications.

If you're talking about Notifications on the site, then I'm not exactly sure. Facebook has been acting strangely for many lately, so it could just be a temporary problem.
