Is there a way to block the new Facebook sidebar notifications?

I thought it was creepy at first, but now it's getting super annoying, too. It has a whole list of "So-and-so listened to such-and-such song on Spotify" notifications, and I honestly just doooon't caaaare. Can I block it completely? Or at least block certain kinds of notifications?

You can only block the notifications that mention what you are doing.

for example every time you play a game - the news comes on the sidebar...

do as i do and go to that notification and click on the X - "Then click on remove posts like this"..worded badly because you have to do that every time you play a game..

you can change your privacy settings so only you can see the news feed, or your friends.
