What does this check mean on Facebook?
Sent a friend request to this guy I knew and when I types his name on my iPod, it has a check near it, what does it mean?

It's just and indication letting you know that you are friends with the person when you view their timeline. If you click on it you will be able to unfriend them, edit how you receive notifications from that friend, or edit the setting on how content created by your friend is displayed on your news feed.

If add a friend to your close friends list then the check mark turns into a gold star.
